International Women’s Day: Reflecting on ‘Give to Gain’

Senior School students and staff gathered in the Gymnasium today to mark International Women’s Day, taking time to reflect on the significance of the day and this year’s theme, “Give to Gain.”

The theme highlights the power of reciprocity and support. When people, organisations and communities actively support women, opportunities grow. Progress is not achieved in isolation. It is built through shared effort, encouragement and advocacy.

Associate Principal Teagan Collins spoke to students about equality and the experiences that have shaped her journey as a mother, partner, student and leader. Drawing on her time in the workforce, she reflected on the importance of backing one another and continuing to work towards greater equity.

Students also heard from Westbourne alumna Bella Paige (Class of 2019), who shared insights from her pathway into the music industry and the female role models who influenced her along the way.

Bella concluded the assembly with a performance of “Proud” by Tamara Todevska, a powerful song about identity, confidence and challenging expectations.

The assembly provided an opportunity for the community to recognise the contributions of the many women who shape life at Westbourne and beyond including students, staff, alumni and family members whose influence continues to strengthen the community.
