Co-curricular
Discover your passions
Students thrive when they are encouraged to try new things and challenge themselves beyond the classroom. That’s why we offer a rich and diverse mix of student learning experiences – from competitive sports, debating and chess, to our AI and Drone Academies, life drawing and theatre.
Whether it’s delivering a TEDx talk, learning an instrument, singing in the choir, or becoming a member of a band or ensemble, these co-curricular experiences are a fundamental part of a Westbourne education. From simulating space missions at Space Camp, or performing on stage, every opportunity helps students grow in confidence.
Beyond the classroom
Learning extends beyond traditional academic subjects, offering rich opportunities for students to discover passions, build friendships and develop lifelong skills.
Music, drama and performing arts
From Prep to Year 12, students find their voice and build confidence through choirs, bands, orchestras, plays and musicals. Performances and productions connect to classroom learning while enriching our community’s culture. Students learn to work as a team, step into the spotlight and celebrate the joy of performance.
Visual arts and design
From life drawing to photography, students build skills across traditional and digital mediums. Exhibitions throughout the year showcase the diverse talents of our artists.
Sport
Sport is a key part of the school experience for our learners, with every student from Year 5 to Year 12 participating in structured programs. Students develop resilience and teamwork, with opportunities to represent their Houses and compete in interschool competitions. Professional coaching and strong community partnerships inspire students to achieve their personal best.
Camps, trips, and tours
Camps help students develop independence and often place them outside of their comfort zone. From international cultural immersions, demanding physical adventures that require endurance and resilience, to local outdoor experiences, each camp is carefully matched to age and stage. Examples of optional trips and tours include our European Music Tour, US Space Camp, and trekking in Nepal to Mount Everest Base Camp.
Technology, innovation and future thinking
Students engage with emerging technologies as creators, not passive consumers. Through creating sophisticated AI applications, learning to build and pilot autonomous vehicles, understanding and using brain-machine interface technology, to competing at the highest levels of esports, students develop agency over the current and emergent technologies at their disposal.
Echoes and Dialogues
Echoes and Dialogues
Facilitated by expert staff, our young people engage in Socratic questioning, Platonic dialogues, and rigorous debate, digging below the surface of contemporary and emerging issues, co-constructing knowledge and understanding difference and perspective. By creating a safe space to question and debate the big ideas and controversial issues of our times, our young people learn to see the world in a different way.
