On Sunday 28 July, Westbourne celebrated our Annual Concert “SONIC” at one of Australia’s most acclaimed venues for music, Melbourne Recital Centre. This night was a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students and staff as the culture of performance celebration came to life on stage. Westbourne’s choirs, orchestras, vocalists, and bands transcended the audience on a musical journey, showcasing some of the incredible talent within our school.
The night began with the Senior Choir and Orchestra exciting rendition of Verdi’s classic ‘Anvil Chorus’ followed by an enchanting performance by the Senior Orchestra, featuring Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 5 Opus 107 ‘Reformation’ IV Andante con moto. Our 2024 Performer of the Year Award Winners, Ruby Streit (12D) and Ethan Borg (9S), graced the stage separately with their renditions of Un bel di vedremo from Madama Butterfly and Andante and Hungarian Rondo, accompanied by the Senior Orchestra.
The evening continued to mesmerise with showstopping performances by our Junior and Senior Choirs, Junior Orchestra, Junior Band, All Stars Big Band, Legends Big Bands, and the Westbourne Percussion Ensemble. Claire Nam (11F), the 2024 Senior Piano Competition Winner, captivated the audience with a beautiful performance of Widmung (Liebeslied).
Westbourne has a long tradition of providing music performance opportunities for students across all year levels. Guided by our highly qualified and experienced educators, students gain the confidence to perform on stage and the chance to develop their musical skills in our Music and Performing Arts Program.
