Our scholarships celebrate and support a wide range of talents and achievements, honouring students who excel academically, artistically, athletically, and in community leadership.

Our Academic Excellence Scholarships – The Ray Horsburgh Memorial Scholarship and The Westbourne Grammar School Principal’s Scholarship – honour Westbourne’s proud legacy of academic achievement. These scholarships celebrate the students who excelled in their studies and demonstrated exceptional leadership.

The General Excellence Scholarship is awarded to students who achieve at high levels academically and who make meaningful contributions to school life or their wider community through various activities. This scholarship celebrates those who bring a spirit of engagement, resilience and inspiration to all they do.

For students with a passion for music, the Music Excellence Scholarship supports the development of their talents with a focus on high-level performance. This scholarship is for those who seek to advance their musical journey while continuing their academic growth.

The Sporting Excellence Scholarship is designed for students who demonstrate outstanding talent in sports while balancing their academic commitments. It recognises young people who bring a spirit of dedication and teamwork to both the classroom and the field.

The First Nations scholarship recognises the talents, achievements, and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. This scholarship provides educational support within a nurturing environment, encouraging students to pursue their academic and personal goals while fostering a sense of belonging and community. The scholarship is open to students who demonstrate a positive outlook to their studies and participating in school life.

Key dates and process

If you are inspired to apply, start by submitting your application. The process is highly competitive, and only selected applicants will be invited to participate in testing and interviews.

  • November 2024: Applications open
  • 13 January 2025: Applications close
  • Mid to late January 2025: Invitations sent to register for scholarship testing (for Academic and General Excellence applicants)
  • 15 February 2025: Scholarship testing
  • March 2025: Interview invitations extended to successful applicants
  • April 2025: Scholarship offers made
Frequently asked questions

Scholarship applications are open to new and current domestic students entering Years 7, 10 and 11 in 2026.

As part of the application process, please be prepared to provide the following:

  • 2024 Semester 1 School Report
  • 2023 Semester 2 School Report
  • Personal or school references (optional)  
  • NAPLAN results (Latest test results)
  • Certificates of Achievement (e.g., academic awards, recognition for extracurricular activities)
  • Music Awards (if applicable)
  • Sport Awards (if applicable)
  • Personal Profile (a brief overview highlighting your strengths, achievements, and interests. Maximum of 200 words)

These documents help us gain a well-rounded understanding of each applicant’s accomplishments and strengths.

Only applicants for Academic and General Excellence scholarships will need to sit the scholarship test.

The test is run through our partner, Edutest, and lasts about 2.5 hours, with sections in: verbal and numerical reasoning; reading comprehension; mathematics; and written expression. More information is available at www.edutest.com.au.

Yes, a fee of $90 applies when you register with our partner Edutest.

No, Edutest results are not provided to families.

Music applicants will be invited to an audition with a panel, including the Director of Music and Performing Arts, where they can demonstrate their passion and talent. In addition to the audition, applicants are required to submit a portfolio of achievements and references from music instructors.

Sporting applicants will interview with a panel, including the Director of Sport, to discuss their sporting interests, achievements and future goals. A portfolio of achievements and references from coaches or sports associations is also required to support the application.

Applicants for the First Nations scholarship will participate in an interview where they will be asked about their aspirations, approach to learning and involvement in co-curricula and extra curricula activities. Students will be expected to demonstrate a positive attitude towards learning, a desire to participate in school life and ability to engage with the Westbourne curriculum.

Recipients of our scholarships are role models within our community. Academic Excellence recipients are expected to maintain high academic standards, while General Excellence recipients contribute positively to school life, setting an example for others.

Terms and Conditions
  1. Number and value of scholarships: The number of scholarships offered, and the value assigned to each may vary each year at the discretion of the Principal.
  2. Eligibility and assessment: Scholarships are awarded based on academic aptitude, supporting documentation and, where relevant, an audition or interview.
  3. Residency requirement: Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents.
  4. Expectations of recipients: Scholars are expected to complete Year 12 at Westbourne Grammar School and actively engage in school life. Should a scholarship recipient withdraw before Year 12, parents are required to repay the full scholarship amount to the school. Scholarships are reviewed annually and may be adjusted or withdrawn if expectations (academic, behavioural, other school expectations) are not met.
  5. One scholarship per student: Students may hold only one scholarship, and generally only one scholarship will be awarded per family unless endorsed by the Principal.
  6. Scholarship coverage: Scholarships apply to tuition fees only, which cover most school-related expenses. This includes subject charges, excursions, personal insurance, ID cards, Literata, IT support, late buses, outdoor education, curriculum-based camps, and student resources. Scholarships do not cover books, stationery, bus fees, private music lessons or instrument hire.Private music lessons and instrument hire are included in the Music Scholarship.
  7. Deferral policy: Scholarships cannot be deferred.
  8. Finality of decisions: All scholarship decisions are final, as determined by the Scholarship Panel, and will not be entered into for further discussion.
  9. Confidentiality of Scholarship Details: Scholarship recipients are not permitted to disclose any financial or specific details regarding their scholarships to other students, families, or external parties.
